Kites Inc. the largest hang gliding
school in the world! The company was founded in 1974 by
John
Harris, a recognized expert and pioneer in hang gliding, and
thrives as a respected hang gliding and retailing operation!
Main Retail Facility
The company's main retail facility is located across from
Jockey's
Ridge
is and the company's largest retail store. This 8,042 square
foot retail facility is home to the original wall climbing
facility, Flight Deck (aviation clothing), Carolina Outdoors
(outdoor clothing), stunt and recreational kite products,
windsocks, and toys. The Flight Deck and Carolina Outdoors
specialize in high quality clothing products focused around
aviation and the outdoor environment.
Foot Launch Flight School at Nags Head
The main facility for Kitty Hawk Kites is located in Nags Head
North Carolina in Jockey's Ridge State Park and houses the
Flight School. The Kitty Hawk Kites Flight School provides
year round
foot-launched instruction from the largest sand dune on
the east coast. Over 80 feet high!
The Flight School employs up to 35 instructors during the
summer months and is the oldest hang gliding school on the
United States East coast and the largest
school of its kind in
the world. It provides instruction from beginning levels all
the way up to advanced instructions for experienced pilots. We
employ instructors in foot-launched and tandem hang gliding.
Since its inception, the Flight School has provided
instruction to well over 260,000 students and continues to
instruct over 10,000 students per year. The Flight School
teaches all of their students in accordance with the United
States Hang Gliding Association's (USHGA)
published standards and provides rating certification to
students meeting these requirements.
Aerotowing School and Flight park
The aerotowing flight park is located at
Currituck County Airport in Maple, North Carolina and
provides
tandem instruction as well as solo hang gliding towing
year round. We are also set
up for paragliding instruction at
