Rules
Hang Gliding Spectacular Rules
(Low altitude flights on Jockey’s Ridge Nags Head, North Carolina)
Anyone with a Hang one or higher may enter. There are 2 divisions Advanced and Novice. Pilots will have to launch their glider, and fly around several cones that create two very wide S-turns. More points are collected for making a wider path around the “Sucker Cones”. Finally, straighten out and aim for the spot landing at the bottom of the course where even more points can be gained for an accurate landing.
Bowling Pin Competition
As a side contest, there are light-weight plastic tubes sticking up near the spot landing known as bowling pins. The goal is to knock down as many pins as you can for points with your body or the glider.
Wright Brothers Ring Grab Contest
As a side contest, pilots can grab the rings for points and must land with the ring to earn points. The pilot with the most points wins the ring grab contest prize!
Kitty Hawk Kites Air Games rules
(High altitude flight at Currituck County Airport Maple, North Carolina)
The final rules will be set according to weather conditions the day of the flying. The pilots will compete in many categories for points. Possible events could be altitude gain, duration in air, bomb drop and spot landings.
(More details to come!)
Teams
This event includes newer pilots along with the advanced pilots. Each team will consist of 4 or more pilots (3 Hang III, IV, or V pilots) and 1 (Hang I or II pilot). The advanced pilots will have a chance to help mentor the newer pilots and teach them them the necessary skills to hopefully win! If you are not on a team yet please contact Bruce weaver or we can place you on a team the day of the event.
Team Relay
The team relay was started in 2003 and has become a huge success. The goal is for all the teams to race from the top of the hill to the bottom on at a time. The officials will signal when you may launch. The catch is that you can’t launch until your team mate crosses the line at the bottom. The team with the best combined time wins! This contest is also a side contest.
